Mission

The mission of the King County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (KCCADV) is to work to end domestic violence by facilitating collective action for social change. In county-wide public policy and education efforts, the Coalition provides leadership on behalf of community based victim service agencies and their allies. The Coalition strives to represent the diverse interests of victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Values

We value justice. We recognize that domestic violence is rooted in oppression, and that all forms of oppression are interconnected. Therefore, in our struggle to end domestic violence, we work to change institutions that overtly or covertly support the abuse of power between individuals and groups of people.

We value equality. We are a feminist organization, which means that we advocate the same rights and opportunities be granted to women as are granted to men. We support the equitable distribution of power and privilege throughout society.

We value equitable distribution of resources. We recognize that poverty and lack of resources are major barriers to safety and autonomy, and therefore work to improve the economic options available to women and children.

We value self-determination. We therefore work to support and expand the choices available to victims and survivors of domestic violence, including, but not limited to, religious freedom, reproductive choice, sexual orientation, and gender identity.

We value safety. We work with our communities to protect the emotional, sexual, and physical safety of victims and to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.

We value the varied perspectives of women who have been abused. We establish mechanisms to gather and incorporate input from survivors so that these perspectives guide our work.

We value collaboration. We work to involve broad segments of our communities in taking a stand against domestic violence. We also link with other progressive movements for social justice.
